Upper West
Ahh--the Upper West. By 1888, about 50 millionaires lived in Helena, more per capita than any city in the world, and most lived in this neighborhood. Much of their architectural legacy still speaks to us every day, just a few blocks west of Last Chance Gulch. The Upper West boasts incredible mansions and well-built older homes. Some rental units are still operating in the upper west, but many are being squeezed out for grand single-family conversions. Modern luxury homes have also sprung up in Reeder's Village, and command a great view of the downtown area. With Mount Helena 'out the back door' residents have access to hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails and thousands of acres of open space--all the way to the Continental Divide and beyond. And an easy walk to all of the downtown amenities as well. It is no wonder that UW home values have "weathered the storm" better than most.
